RECENT BREVARD LIONS CLUB ACTIVITIES -
Through January of our 2016/17 Lions Year which began July 1st, $5745 has been approved for assisting 55 people with new glasses.
For the 2015/16 Lions Year - $10,151 for assisting 111 people
For the 2014/15 Lions Year - $11,045 for assisting 132 people
For the 2013/14 Lions Year - $9495 for assisting 120 people
For the 2012/13 Lions Year - $8348 for assisting 81 people
Half is paid by the Brevard Lions Club and half by matching funds from NC Lions Inc.
Lion Russ Chappell has been elected as club Treasurer to replace Roger Hein, who resigned.
Lion Jack Hudson passed away November 6. Lion Jack has been a loyal, hard working Lion since 1958 and he will definetely be missed. We were lucky to be able to have had the special meeting to celebrate his service at our first meeting in October.
We cleared $293 selling used books and Lions brooms at the 2016 Halloween Fest downtown street festival. Thanks to the workers!
Lion Harvey has sold almost $1300 worth of Lions brooms to summer camps for 2016.
A grant of $2500 has been received for our glasses assistance project from the Outreach Committee of the Episcopal Church Women of St. Philips Episcopal Church. This will be a great help in meeting the ever-increasing need for our assistance.A $2500 donation from the Lake Toxaway Charities organization will allow our club to continue to provide glasses for the needy of Transylvania County, through requests from over 25 aid organizations in WNC.
The Flea Market held in May at the Brevard College gym raised over $1000 - a new record!
The March Wine Tasting at Brevard Wines raised $250. Thanks Lion Dick for organizing this event.
Thanks to Lion Joe Workman for his work posting club meeting notices in the local newspaper. Very well-written and informative. He has also created a Facebook page for the Brevard Lions Club at http://www.facebook.com/brevardlionsclub.
Congratulations to Lion Harry Corbin for 67 years of membership, Lion Jake for 42 years, Lions Tony and Ed for 36 years, Lion Gary for 31 years, and Lion Harvey for 26 years!
