The Hostel Project

To provide affordable housing to visitors and service to the community.

Our goal is to provide clean, safe and affordable short term housing to groups, families, individuals visiting our small coastal community.

The intent is to have proceeds from the hostel  support Sight & Hearing Programs, Camp Horizon special needs camp and other community projects.

We recently updated and upgraded the Hostel building and we now support the Arts and Music in the Community.

  • We have a weekly drum circle which engages 40 plus community members.  The Drum Circle participants bring food items for the local food bank.    The Crum Circle.
  • The Playlists, a local band entertains our guests and volunteers.   The Playlists are planning a fund raiser for the Lions. In July of 2011 they were the feature band at the Bellingham Hospice Fundraiser which raised over 40,000 for the Hospice Facility.
  • Artists have been donating their time and energy into the building    Artists are free to create, display and sell their art from the hostel walls.  The Artists consistantly donate a percentage of their sales to the Birch Bay Lions.

The Hostel is a retired Air Force Building.  Once the single officers quarters of the Blaine Air Force Station for Communications and Radar Defence.
