Have Hot Dogs, Will Travel

For more than sixty years, food sales, primarily of the steamed hot dog variety, have been a large part of the Belfast Lions Club annual charitable fund raising effort. Belfast Lions were among the organizers and early supporters of the Maine Broiler Festival which began in 1948, and customarily the club sold hot dogs and cold drinks at City Park during the festival.  In the 1960's, the club built a portable hot dog booth which was trailered to the park during the festival and to other sites when opportunities were presented. The original booth was replaced with our current booth, also home made, in the 1980's.  In 1981, the Broiler Festival became the Bay Festival, and our booth continued to see service there each year until the festival closed in 2005.  Since that time, the booth has been operated at other events around the city, including Belfast Area High School  football games,  the Celtic Celebration, the Maritime Heritage Festival, Belfast Wienerfest, and others.  The menu has varied to suit the individual venue, to include french fries, grilled burgers, dough boys, and fried fish and chips.

Currently, the club is in the process of replacing our aging "hot dog wagon" with a newer, cleaner, more efficient and more easily transported booth. Look for our new, bright red trailer at the usual events in 2015.
