THIS YEAR'S RECIPIENTS
We strive to bring more awareness of diabetes and its health effects to our community. Each year, we seek sponsors for this fun family event, to benefit special non-profit organizations. This year, our donations will be made to the following:
Camp Needles in the Pines – Located at Camp Boddie Boy Scout Camp at Blounts Creek in eastern North Carolina, this is a one-week residential camp for children with Type I Diabetes, ages 8 to 14 years.  Campers are taught self-management skills in a fun and supportive outdoor environment with other diabetic children. The staff provides 24-hour medical supervision.  Beaufort Lions have offered 10 full scholarships for local children this year.
Vision Needs in Carteret County – Beaufort Lions Club provides funds for vision screening and eyeglasses for visually impaired adults in our community who are referred through local Social Services.  This year we sponsored a children’s vision screening event in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Beaufort and Morehead City.  We have NC Vision Vans scheduled for Beaufort and Morehead City later this year.
Leader Dog for the Blind - In the past we have helped to fund a new dog training center that teaches dogs the skills and characteristics needed to handle the responsibilities of being a Guide Dog. This empowers blind and visually impaired people with lifelong skills for safe and independent daily travel.  Leader Dog also pays for lodging and training for blind individuals when dogs are placed.  They also provide free verbal navigation devices and white canes to enhance independence.  We have several individuals with dogs in Carteret County.

We will be providing free diabetic screening at the race. The race will be promoted through local and area media, Facebook, Run the East website, and on our own website. You can learn more about our race or register runners or dog walkers at http://www.runtheeast.com/calendar.php

Attached are our sponsorship levels and the benefits of each level. Beaufort NC Lions Foundation is a 501c3 entity, so donations are tax deductible. Thank you for your support of Beaufort Lions Club.
