What do we do? How do we serve the community?
Here is a listing of some of our St Albert Host Lions Club projects and areas of service activities our club was involved with this year.
Hunger
- St Albert Food Bank (annually) - monetary donation; participation in the annual Spring food drive; delivery of food drive donation bags for annual Fall food drive.
- Support for Homeless (annually) - donation to Hope Mission; assisted in preparation and serving a meal.
- St Albert Chamber of Commerce Christmas Trees (annually) - Part of the fee for decorating Christmas tree is donated to St Albert Food Bank and Salvation Army.
St Albert Host Lions Club hosted a table outside of the St Albert Safeway store collecting donations from 10 am - 4 pm. We were able to collect $530 in cash donations and between 300 - 400 lbs of non-perishable food items for the St Albert Food Bank.
Environment
- Clean & Green Riverfest (annually) - assisted planting trees & shrubs.
- Lacombe Community Gardens (annually) - participation in the weekly Friday night "Weed & Feed".
- Backyard Gardens (annually) - participated in the spring Seed and Plant Swaps.
Vision
- Recycling of Used Eyeglasses (annually) - Collection of used eyeglasses, shipped to the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (Clerk)
- Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (annually)
- 5 year monetary donation towards Lions Foundation of Canada's new facility for training Dog Guides.
- Participation with Pet Value to hold the annual "Walk for Dog Guides".
- Children Vision Screening (occasionally) - in partnership with the St Albert Breakfast Lions Club we set up a free Vision Screening booth for kids, at the St Albert Lifestyle Expo and one weekend at the Farmer's Market.
Youth
- Lions Legacy Scholarship - 3 scholarships awarded annually to high school students.
- Filipchuk Memorial Scholarship - annually awarded scholarship at the Rotary Music Festival.
- Lions Peace Poster Contest (annually) - Provide poster kits to St Albert schools for participation in the Peace Poster Contest.
- Lion's Project Maple Leaf (annually) - distribution of Canadian flags & certificate to all grade 1 students in St Albert (in June prior to Canada Day).
- St Albert Soap Box Derby (annually) - monetary donation, built a Lion's themed community cart; volunteering at the annual Father's Day event.

Disaster Aid
- Disaster Relief (annually & as needed)

We raise money to make a monetary donation to the Lions Club International Foundation.
- Jasper Re-opening - Under the leadership of Jasper Lion's club a generous member of our club, along with members of the Devon's Lions club assisted the Jasper Club in providing 10 days of serving meals at the Legion to first responders (firefighters, police service, etc.) & returning residents.
- In partnership with the St Albert Breakfast Lion's Club we purchased 300 teddy bears (from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) of Edmonton which were distributed to all the kids who returned to schools in Jasper this September.

Additional Humanitarian Efforts
- Cavalcade for Diabetes (annually) - Donation to diabetes youth camp.
- Camp HE-HO-HA (annually) - Monetary donation.
- Literacy (annually) - Monetary donation to St Albert Library for large print books or to English Second Language support for Newcomers
- Blood Donor Clinics (Frequently) - Assisting with snacks etc for participants.
- St Albert Rodeo Parade
Fund Raising Efforts
- Casino - every 2 - 3 years
- Bingos - working 1 - 4 per month
- Canada Hot Dog Stand (annually on July 1st)
- Heritage Days Volunteering - with 15 minimum shifts we receive an honorarium

Our Conversation on Peace
Our February Showcase of Cultures featured presentations on Brazil and Black History Month
The St. Albert Host Lions Club participated in the 2023 Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign!!
Sat. Dec. 2 All Day of Service for St. Albert Host Lions Club members volunteered their time and energy by looked after the Salvation Army Kettles at Walmart (north entrance) and Super Store. We are thankful to the stores and the opportunity for people of St. Albert to donate and do their part to help those in need.

Please indicate that your donation is for Refugees in Ukraine. You can donate in Canadian Funds and you will receive a Canadian Tax receipt.
